The Ministry for Foreign Affairs will mark the beginning of Finland’s centenary celebrations by illuminating the seaside façade of its main building, Merikasarmi, at New Year. The illumination will be displayed on three evenings, from Friday to Sunday.
The New Year illumination also serves as a means of testing the suitability of Merikasarmi’s façade for marking future international events and celebrations with similar arrangements.
Merikasarmi is architect Carl Ludvig Engel’s first major work in Helsinki. The Ministry for Foreign Affairs transferred to the premises towards the end of 1980s.
